Students gain knowledge of word origins and word relationships, as well as context clues, to determine the meaning of specialized vocabulary and to understand the precise meaning of grade-level-appropriate words. Instruction includes systematic vocabulary building. Students read and understand grade-level-appropriate material. Students engage in the following learning activities:

  • Reading comprehension skill building
  • Novel study of Charlie and Chocolate Factory and Wonder
  • Using context clues to arrive at word meaning
  • Writing process: Brainstorm, Draft, Revise, Edit, Final draft
  • Writing styles include:  Creative, Informational, Persuasive, Poetry
  • Grammar Instruction
  • Greek and Latin Roots
