My Ancestors Live in Me by Arden

Are you at all like me?  Do you ever feel that you have no words to express what you are feeling or what you say will come out wrong?  That’s an everyday occurrence when you have dyslexia.

When I was little I was a fun loving kid, and all my pictures show me smiling. Spin forward 10 years and I am smiling again.  I think my ancestors are looking down and smiling too because dyslexia is genetic, and that means that they would have strugggled with writing as well. Writing essays used to be  impossible for me and there was no getting around the tears and frustration. As much as I liked my friends and teachers, school was becoming my least favourite part of my life.

I started Christa McAuliffe Academy School of Arts and Sciences two years ago and have been flying through the courses and the reason is simple: there are lots of options. If I need to present some work, I can choose to do it anyway I want, and for me that is often a PowerPoint presentation or a web page or images. If something is partcularly hard, and I feel myself getting frustrated, I walk away from the computer and do something I really enjoy.  This makes my life easy and fun again.  I get right to my school work so that I can spend more time with my horse Dancer.  And why not? She smiles too, and like I said earlier, I imagine my ancestors looking down and smiling as they too were horse lovers. I am not sure why you are considering alternative schooling, but I can tell you that I couldn’t be happier.  It’s just too bad CMA wasn’t around for my ancestors!
