You’ve been laughed at. You’ve been misunderstood. You’ve been left alone.>
You’ve been noticed, identified, set apart from the crowd.
Strange, odd, weird, unusual — these are words others use towards you behind your back, or worse, to your face.
What they don’t know: you are unique, brave, kind, spectacular. You are stronger than they know. You are right where you’re supposed to be.
Being “different” in talents, preferences, appearances, beliefs, is challenging sometimes. It takes a courageous person to stay true to their individuality instead of blending into the crowd.
Here’s what you need to know. Remember.
“Difference is magic, difference is wonderful. Trying to be the same as everyone else is a strategy that kind of works in school, but when you get out into the world, it is your differences that make you glorious.” - Neil Gaiman
“Different is not an evaluation. As I taught my children while they were growing up, "Different is only different." Celebrate differences for therein lies the basis for much of what we learn in life.”James Osborne
“I finally know the difference between pleasing and loving, obeying and respecting. It has taken me so many years to be okay with being different, and with being this alive, this intense. ” - Eve Ensler
“The person who follows the crowd will usually go no further than the crowd. The person who walks alone is likely to find himself in places no one has ever seen before.” - Albert Einstein<
Being different is good because:
- It’s who you were made to be. It allows you to be yourself.
- It’s less stressful than trying to be the same as others.
- It’s liberating and creative.
- It prepares you for a life of opportunity.
- You will contribute so much to the world.
- You are an inspiration to others.
“You alone are enough. You have nothing to prove to anybody.” - Maya Angelou
You are going to be fine. You will find others who are similar to you. You will be accepted as a unique individual.
You are known, cherished and loved.
Keep being you.
