Hi Kimberly! Tell us a little bit about yourself.

I currently live outside of Washington, DC in Maryland, but I started working for CMASAS five years ago when I lived in Anchorage, Alaska.  Since then I have lived in Seattle, WA, and Melbourne, Australia.  My husband and I love to see the world, and fortunately, our flexible jobs allow us to move around and experience different parts of the world as well.  Wherever we live, we love to live as tourists and locals and soak up all we can from the people, culture, etc.

We now have two daughters, Iona who is almost 5 and Gemma who is 2, and our family will continue to expand this summer.  We do hope to continue to move around and show our kids the world - one of the benefits of teaching online!

As for free time, as a working mother of young children, I don't have a lot of free time.  I do love travel, photography, nature, and I'm sure there is more I'm forgetting - at least much of these loves can be enjoyed with my growing family.

Why do you love to teach?

I have known since I was in high school that teaching was the direction for me.  I love sharing my knowledge and experiences to help students unlock their own passions to discover the world - past and present.  I stumbled upon online learning about 8 years ago, and at first, I was unsure if I could continue to make the personal connections with students that made my job so enjoyable, but I soon learned that I could!   I love the diversity of students at CMASAS, so teaching continues to be a daily joy for me.

What types of courses do you teach at CMASAS?

I teach high school social studies courses.

What is one dream you have for your students’ happiness and health that you enjoy encouraging them in?

I will always encourage students to learn about the world by going out there and jumping right in - exploring the local history through museums and parks, traveling to learn about other places, and when possible, living in other places in order to immerse themselves into culture, language, etc.

How can students and parents get in touch with you?
