We have all heard the adage, 'Do what you love and you will never have to work a day in your life'. While many may argue the validity of this statement, no one could argue the sentiment. The path to a fulfilling and happy life may well be to follow your passion The problem lies in finding out just what your passion is.
Take a look at Emily and her family. Emily was raised when online high schools were not an option. Her parents were determined to raise her to believe that she could be and do whatever she dreamed of. They fostered an environment where learning and curiosity were encouraged and rewarded and made sure she had a wide variety of reading material to broaden her horizons.
Emily's parents were successful in raising an independent and open-minded daughter who worked hard and fought her way to the top. Although proud of her achievements, Emily was not happy in her work or her life. She woke every morning feeling that there must be something more.
What Emily wouldn't discover until she was well into adulthood and a parent herself was that her true passion was working with pottery. At some point she decided she had had enough of the rat race, quit her job, bought a studio and now spends every day elbow deep in clay, feeling happier and more fulfilled than she has ever been.
Obviously, Emily's parents cared about the adult she would become and truly wanted what was best for her. Their fault lay not in lack of trying, but lack of exposure. Neither of them had ever been introduced to the arts in more than a cursory way and unfortunately for Emily, the public school district she attended did no better.
If there is anything to be learned from Emily's story, it is that finding one's true calling in life requires exposure to as many options as possible.
When it comes to the ability to expand your child's horizons and allowing them to further explore that interests, online high schools offer many advantages over their traditional brick-and-mortar counterparts.
